Monteverdi’s Venetian Vespers of 1641

June 3 and 4, 2023

During Monteverdi’s 30 years as Maestro di Cappella of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, he published only one book of sacred choral music. This single publication, Selva Morale e Spirituali, contains a handful of pieces that Monteverdi chose to represent the very best of his illustrious career. In collaboration with the Kansas City Baroque consortium, we will bring to life for the first time in Kansas City this music of deep faith, infectious charm, and musical virtuosity.

To celebrate the final concert of our milestone 15th season, we invite you to join us for a complimentary reception immediately following both performances. On Saturday, June 3rd, patrons will enjoy wine and a sweet treat in the Fellowship Hall of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. On Sunday, June 4th, patrons will enjoy cookies and lemonade in the Welcome Center at Village Presbyterian Church.
