O Magnum Mysterium
December 19 and 20, 2022
Meaningful aspects of the season will be explored and celebrated by structuring the concert around four different musical settings of one of the most famous Christmas texts, O Magnum Mysterium. Each section explores one of the 4 lines of text – the mystery of this gift, the animals present at the birth, that sacrifice and love of the mother, and finally, “Alleluia,” a song of praise and joy.
Spanning more than 10 centuries, the music expresses the meaning of Christmas from generations past and present, including with a new commission by our composer in residence James Eakin III and a newly commissioned text by famed poet Charles Anthony Silvestri.
