Te Deum concert

Salve Mundi Salutare – with Bach Aria Soloists (Antiqua)

February 17 and 18, 2024

Salve Mundi Salutare is explored, longed for, and celebrated in unique ways in the three pieces on this program. Featuring Te Deum and Elisa Bickers on organ, Benjamin Britten’s Festival Te Deum makes exuberant use of the ancient hymn of praise. Bach Aria Soloists, featuring soprano Sarah Tannehill Anderson, performs the sublimely moving Bach Cantata 199, Meine Herze swimmt im blut. Widely regarded as the first Lutheran oratorio, Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri is a reflection on “the most holy limbs of our suffering Jesus,”composed in 1680 for choir, soloists, and instrumental ensemble. It remembers the suffering of Christ in a series of short cantatas, each addressing a different part of the crucified body. Te Deum and Bach Aria Soloists combine to bring this magnificent work to life.
