The Beatitudes, seven verses from the Book of Matthew, are repeatedly quoted to speak truth and offer hope to Christians. These verses not only resonate with Christian followers, but their truths resonate universally: be kind, work for peace, stand up for what is right, be humble.
Following up on Te Deum’s highly successful Christmas concert in 2018, we are returning with an equally exciting and engaging version of our now annual “Peace and Joy”. This season’s concerts will of course focus on two of the season’s most important themes, music of peace and joy, but we will also give special attention to local Kansas City Composers.
The Lamentations of Jeremiah, somber lessons delivered in the final days of Holy Week, have been set to music by numerous composers over the past centuries, but few resonate with the intensity of the 16th-century Spaniard, Thomás Luis de Victoria.
In collaboration with Father Justin Matthews, Te Deum will present sections of the Orthodox All-Night Vigil service and the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, integrating works of the most famous Orthodox composers.
